Rather than rent a MTB or gravel bike I decided to use my trusted Specialized Roubaix which has over 50K miles and lots of history.  The East Coast Greenway has over 600 miles of unpaved roads and we will frequently be riding in the rain so I made a few modifications to better accommodate the terrain and weather.

1.  I removed my Speedplay pedals and replaced them with XTR SPD's which will allow me to walk with recessed cleats

2.  I added small fenders front and rear

3.  I added a seat post rack to mount a storage bag to carry supplies and rain gear for a quick change if needed

4.  I installed 32mm Continental GPX 5000 tires

We are not racing so there will be ample food along the route but I packed single portions of Skratch as well as protein bars
